Gisborne Soccer Club is a community club that offers soccer for all ages, whilst ensuring development and progression pathways are available for talented and ambitious players. Gisborne has a proven track record of developing their junior players through to the senior first teams and beyond.

Gisborne Soccer Club will have competitive footballing options for children from ages 6 up to 17, played on Sundays with training sessions midweek evenings. Non-competitive "U7s introduction to football" classes (ie ages 5, 6 and a few 7s) are run on Saturday mornings. Coaches Mentor

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Krywula as Coaches Mentor for Season 2024.

Andrew brings 15 years playing & 15 years coaching experience.

He will be supporting our coaches from U8s right through to the Senior program.

2024 sees the biggest investment the club has made in coaching across the board. For the first time our Senior Men have 4 coaches for the State League program. We have also appointed Alex Phung & Cameron Emery as Junior Boys coaches as we look for a more structured pathway between the Junior & Senior programs.

Meanwhile in the Junior Girls program Carl Valeri & Vince Ryan continue in their roles as our girls continue to develop ready for the return of the Senior Womens program.

Supporting our coaches is a vital and another way to ensure we are getting the most value for our players to allow them to be the best versions of themselves.

Keep an eye out for Andrew at training!

2024 Womens Team

Gisborne Soccer Club regrets to inform that due to the low number of interested players we are unable to field a Womens team in 2024.

We remain committed to fostering the growth of female football within our club, we are pleased to have strong number in our Junior program which acts as a pathway to the return of Senior football, to which we anticipate will be in 2025.

Gisborne SC proudly continues to facilitate the strong “Gisborne Tillies” program, enabling Women who wish to stay engaged with playing the game but not at a competition football level.

Cameron Emery, who was appointed our Womens coach for Season 2024, will remain at the club, he moves to the vacant Junior Boys U15’s role (our Junior Girls already have their coaches appointed) and will take the reins of the Womens team upon its return in 2025.

Waitlist Closed

Gisborne Soccer Club has experienced strong growth once again in 2024. We are so excited to have close to 400 boys and girls from u8s to u18s playing this year and on their pathway into our successful Seniors Program. In addition to that, we run a hugely popular MiniRoos KickOff non-competitive program for 4-7 year olds, and in 2024 are running our inaugural Intra Club Program for 7-9 year olds.

All competition teams are now complete and we are unable to accept any more players. Expressions of interest for the 2025 season will open later this year. Please follow our social media pages on Facebook and Instagram to keep informed of when that opens, likely to be between September and November.

Update on Junior and MiniRoos grading

Having finished grading last weekend and assessed offline during the week, our graders and coaches met this morning to agree the best way to form our Junior and MiniRoos squads and teams this season.

We made great progress and whilst there are a couple of corners left to round off, we decided what we think makes most sense to aim for and we're ready to make offers to all kids that graded. We intend to do this age group by age group over the next week or in a few cases, possibly two, so please be patient. However we believe we can make a sensible offer of a team to join for everyone that graded - which is good news and is always our intention as a community club. With about 2 months until the season starts though, we're keen to get people joining as members and training commenced asap.

Below are the teams we think we can form assuming everyone who graded wants to join:

Girls

U8 potentially 1 team

U10 1 team

U11 1 team

U13 2 teams (including some U12 girls)

U15 1 team

U18 potentially one team

Boys

U8 3 teams

U9 1 team

U10 2 teams

U11 1 team

U12 1 team

U13 3 teams (including some U12 boys)

U14 1 team

U15 1 team

U17 1 team

Most of these have coaches assigned but not all so if you are keen to take on a role, please let us know. You will be welcomed and fully supported by a very enthusiastic and collaborative set of volunteer coaches and of course our Junior and Mini Roos coaching coordinator Paul Bryan.

General questions below most welcome.

Thanks

Coaching Coordinator Appointed

We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Bryan as GSC's Junior and Mini Roos Coaching Coordinator for 2022. A new role for next season, Paul will be seeking to help all of our coaches from U7s up to U18s, both girls and boys, in:
- designing/planning training sessions,
- sharing coaching theory issued by FV and FFA,
- leveraging opportunities available to coaches to improve their coaching capabilities and in turn the quality of coaching our kids get at Gisborne; and
- generally helping us to install a culture that seeks not just to get the kids out there playing but also to educate them in the best way we can about how to play the game.

A Vets player with his own kids at the Club and a lifelong enthusiasm for the game, we are confident his personable nature and keenness to help will be a benefit to all our coaches and in turn, our kids learning to improve and love the game.

Welcome Paul!

Boys 16 Pre-Season

PART 3 STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING

As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering an elite sporting experience Gisborne SC has partnered with Elite Wellbeing to develop and deliver a Strength and Conditioning program for our U16A Boys team.

IMG_4008.jpg

Our first session was conducted on Tuesday 12th February led by Craig Mottram.

Craig’s expertise in this area is unparalleled having competed on the world stage at the most elite level for over 16 years, and now having translated those experiences into training programs for elite sporting clubs and athletes.

Our first session was telling and we could see the boys improve over the course of our first 2 hours together, we look forward to working with Craig for the rest of this season, and beyond.

Boys 16 Pre-Season

Part 2 Leadership and Values

At Gisborne SC we have actively pursued a program for the past season to provide as much support to our young athletes and their mental wellbeing and preparedness as possible.

On 6th February this continued this objective with a presentation from SALT – Sport and Life Training for our U16A boys team with a focus on Leadership and Team Values.

Under the expert guidance of presenter Dave Burt we explored leadership as a responsibility for everyone, and discussed what some of the key values of this team would be.

The boys were extremely engaged in the discussion and come up with their own set of team values, headlined by RESPECT.

The team will continue to work to ensure that both individually and as a collective they accept the responsibility and leadership required to demonstrate these values throughout the season.

Boys 16 Pre-Season

Part 1 Injury prevention

Gisborne SC Boys 16A kicked off their pre-season under the guidance of Internationally Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner Dr. Brayden Allen with a key focus on Injury Prevention.

As a club one of our highest priorities is to promote the well-being of all of our members, one of the key areas we can support our players is to ensure they take every step possible to avoid injuries.

Dr Brayden Allen

Dr Brayden Allen

The program which is being implemented has been proven on a worldwide scale to reduce injury rates by 45% and decrease lost time to injury by 30%. The boys have totally embraced the program and we look forward to enjoying the results as the season progresses.

Based on the FIFA 11 Injury Prevention Program, our pre-season preparation falls into line with our Mens program as we look to ready these boys as our next generation Senior players.
